Frequently asked questions
Are we the project for you?
If you are a Christian college student are on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ in any venue, and have a teachable spirit, a desire to live in authentic relationships, and an appreciation for the outdoors, this project may very well be for you. The project is emotionally intensive, and you will be expected to fully participate and practice what you are learning. Much of what you will be exposed to will be transferable for you to use back on your campus in your small groups and leadership teams.
How do I raise support?
This summer project is like many missionary trips in that you are expected to raise the full project cost before reporting for the summer. The process of support raising can be a tremendous time for character growth, humility, perseverance, and faith. It is through support raising that we often see God's provision in tangible ways and we experience the love and generosity of others. We will help guide you through this process and provide you with helpful materials to get you started.
Will I be able to get a summer job on project?
No. This is a unique project in many ways. Your learning and growth will take place through process learning and small group interactions that require you to be "on," in terms of being in the learning environment, 24 hours a day. We have purposefully structured your four week experience so you can get a job back home or be available for summer classes in July. (See project dates.)
How is the leadership Adventure project different from other projects?
The Lifelines summer Project is distinct.
- 4 week project allows students to have much of the summer off for work, vacation or summer classes in July
- Our focus is on character and leadership development: producing reproducing disciples of Christ, who want to see the world changed for Christ and have a taste of how to make that happen
- Almost all of our training takes place in the outdoors, challenging students physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually
- Evangelism occurs as a product of right relating; it is both accidental and incidental
Do I need prior experience in the outdoors?
No. Experienced guides will coach you through each activity providing instruction and safety. The activities themselves are not the focus of the project, they are our classroom as we focus on growth concepts. That said, much of our training will be in the outdoors, so it will be more pleasurable for you if you take some degree of enjoyment from outdoor activities and have a certain level of fitness. Our only guideline is that you be physically able to carry a twenty pound pack for two miles. You will be required to participate in all outdoor activities, so please do plan accordingly.
How much outdoor stuff is there?
Enough to keep you excited but not too much to dissuade you from fully participating. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast or would rather go shopping in the city, you will find the level of activity challenging and engaging, but also manageable and rewarding.
What is the project schedule like?
Here is a sample schedule for the typical group of twelve:
- Sunday: church and day off
- Monday: training and small groups
- Tuesday – Thursday: outdoor activities, outreach at night
- Friday: planning day
- Saturday: project-wide outreach
Though students will be focused on learning within their small group environment, they will also have time to connect as a whole project (20-30 students). Outreach will be emphasized and permeated throughout the week.
